merchants: Taos Sunflower
Taos Sunflower opened in September 2002 in a 100 sq. ft. room located next to my home in the mountains north of Taos, New Mexico. Conceived and opened in a scant two months, I had few flight plans...I hoped to make enough money to pay the bills (the dreamer), offer some yarns and tools not otherwise available in our immediate area, and most importantly, make healthy contributions to research for a cure for breast cancer, in the memory of my sister Vicki and her daughter, Kathleen.
Little did I know how my life would change! From the first day until the present I have been meeting the most wonderful and talented people. A monthly knitting group promptly formed, as well as many friendships. By the end of 2002, planning for winter knitting classes was underway and a substantial contribution to breast cancer research was made. Taos Sunflower was off and running!
By spring, I knew the shop had outgrown its space at home. By April, a new location was found...a wonderful territorial style building (reminiscent of a one room school house) in nearby Arroyo Seco, a scant 10 minutes north of Taos on the road to Taos Ski Valley. Two months of planning, ordering, agonizing, and just plain having too much fun, and the doors opened for business on June 28, 2003. We haven't looked back.
